Anhui Medical College is a public general junior college directly under the Anhui Provincial Health Commission. With the approval of the Anhui Provincial People's Government and the record of the Ministry of Education, Anhui Medical College (hereinafter referred to as "AMC") has been included in the "14th Five-Year Plan" for higher education institutions in Anhui Province for upgrading to a medical undergraduate institution.
AMC is located in Hefei City, with three main campuses: Wuhu Road Campus, Furong Road Campus, and Xinqiao Campus, covering a total area of 78.84 hectares. It has nearly 12,000 full-time higher vocational students and 330 undergraduate students in joint training programs.
The predecessor of AMC was Hefei Health School, established in 1955. In 1969, it was relocated to Chaohu City and returned to Hefei in September 1974, establishing the Anhui Provincial Health Cadre Training School. In July 1978, Hefei Health School was restored. In June 2001, it was upgraded to Anhui Health Vocational and Technical College, and in March 2002, it was renamed Anhui Medical College.
AMC is recognized as a national high-quality junior college, a national "Double High Plan" construction institution, one of the first batch of "Three Comprehensive Education" comprehensive reform pilot institutions by the Ministry of Education, one of the top 50 national colleges with exemplary graduate employment experience, a national model Party branch cultivation and establishment unit, a pilot institution for the Ministry of Education's first batch of Excellence in Doctor Education and Training Programs, a national smart education platform pilot school, a national health school construction unit, a model higher vocational college in Anhui Province, one of the first batch of high-level skill-oriented colleges in Anhui Province, a demonstration college for "Double Foundation" construction in Anhui Province, a pioneer in curriculum ideological and political education in Anhui Province, a demonstration school for student innovation and entrepreneurship in Anhui Province, an exemplary employment unit in Anhui Province, a second-batch model school for school-enterprise cooperation in Anhui Province, a third-batch model base for school-enterprise cooperation in Anhui Province, one of the first batch of law-based governance demonstration schools in Anhui Province, a provincial-level civilized campus, and a civilized campus under the provincial direct authorities. The college has also received honors such as the National Advanced Unit for Spiritual Civilization Construction and the National Advanced Collective in the Health System. It has been evaluated as "Excellent" in the talent cultivation work assessment of higher vocational colleges in Anhui Province and in the acceptance and personalized evaluation of Anhui’s model higher vocational colleges.
AMC currently has a total construction area of 407,383.86 square meters, including 252,702.63 square meters for teaching, research, and administrative purposes. It has teaching equipment valued at 237.34 million yuan and a library collection equivalent to 1.7391 million books. The college manages the Anhui Academy of Medical Sciences and has 12 schools: School of Clinical Medicine (General Practice School), School of Stomatology, School of Medical Technology, School of Nursing, School of Public Health and Health Management, School of Pharmacy, School of Public Basics, School of Basic Medicine, School of Marxism, School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, School of International Education, and School of Continuing Education. Additionally, it houses various education and research institutions, including the Anhui General Practice Training Center, Anhui Health Staff Training Center, and Anhui Genetic Medicine Center. The college has established nine research institutes focusing on general medical education, dental technology and materials, infection and immunity, nursing and health promotion, smart health and elderly care, biotechnology drugs, tumor molecular biology, ideological and political education, and medical culture inheritance.
AMC offers 18 majors in five categories: medicine, pharmacy, nursing, technology, and management. It has one nationally recognized high-level specialty group, four national key specialties, and 13 provincial-level specialty (key) programs. It has established one national smart medical virtual simulation training base, two national productive training bases co-built with enterprises, two central government-funded training bases, seven provincial demonstration training centers, and one provincial innovation and entrepreneurship academy. There are 17 on-campus experimental training centers/bases, including clinical skills training, nursing training, laboratory diagnostics, pharmacy, elderly care services, public foundational training, morphology, and functional training centers. Additionally, there are 229 off-campus practical teaching bases. AMC has one directly affiliated hospital (Anhui Second People's Hospital), one directly affiliated dental hospital, 11 non-directly affiliated hospitals, 11 teaching hospitals, and six industry-specific colleges. It collaborates with Bengbu Medical College in joint undergraduate education.
The Anhui Academy of Medical Sciences, managed by AMC, is primarily responsible for fundamental and applied medical research in the province. It actively promotes the industrialization of scientific research achievements and provides effective technological services. The academy has five specialized medical research institutes: Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Institute, Pharmacology and Toxicology Research Institute, Microbiology Research Institute, Clinical Medicine Research Institute, and Preventive Medicine Research Institute. It also has three technological service platforms: Anhui Provincial Experimental Animal Quality Supervision and Testing Center, Medical and Health Testing Center, and Anhui Health Technology Assessment Center. The academy houses the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine’s "Traditional Chinese Medicine Chemistry" Level-3 Laboratory, barrier and general environment animal laboratories, the 2021 Anhui Provincial Key Specialty Laboratory of Medical Microbiology and Disinfection, and the 2023 Anhui Provincial Joint Construction Key Discipline Laboratory. It is qualified as a national health food registration testing institution and a food inspection and testing institution in Anhui Province. The Anhui Provincial Health Commission’s Science and Education Management Office and the Secretariat of the Anhui Provincial Medical Ethics Expert Committee are affiliated with the academy. The academy collaborates with Anhui University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Anhui Medical University’s School of Public Health in postgraduate education, establishing a joint postgraduate training and practice base. It has been approved as the 15th batch of postdoctoral research stations in Anhui Province and is a National Natural Science Foundation support unit.
AMC boasts a strong faculty team, with 838 full-time teachers (including those from directly affiliated hospitals). Among them, 588 teachers hold master's degrees or higher, accounting for over 70%, and 347 teachers hold associate senior titles or higher, making up over 40%. There are 86 professors with senior professional titles, including 42 full professors. Over 68% of teachers are classified as "dual-qualified." Faculty members include one national "Ten Thousand Talents Plan" teaching master, one nominee for the National College Counselor of the Year, one national-level teacher innovation team, two provincial "115" industrial innovation teams, one provincial university leading teaching master, one Jianghuai Vocational Education Master, 21 provincial teaching masters, 11 provincial professional leaders, 31 provincial young teaching talents, 30 provincial teaching teams, and one provincial advanced education collective. Additionally, the college has one "Most Beautiful Teacher in Anhui Province" and one "Excellent Teacher in Anhui Province."
AMC has achieved remarkable educational and teaching accomplishments. It has won two national teaching achievement awards and 54 provincial teaching achievement awards (including two special awards and 18 first prizes). It has received 7 national high-quality course awards and 138 provincial-level high-quality course awards. It won first and second prizes in the first National Textbook Construction Awards. Faculty members secured top prizes in national and provincial vocational skills competitions, while students won national and provincial awards in various competitions, including the "Internet+" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the "Challenge Cup," and career planning competitions.
AMC has significantly improved its scientific and technological innovation capabilities, securing two National Natural Science Foundation projects, five Provincial Natural Science Foundation projects, and 11 major provincial college projects. Faculty members have obtained nine international invention patents and 30 national invention patents, while students have acquired 1,037 utility model patents. AMC's academic journal, "Journal of Anhui Medical College," has been recognized three times as an "Excellent Journal" by the China University Journal Research Association and the Anhui Periodicals Association, ranking among the top seven in the "RCCSE China Academic Journal Rankings" for higher vocational colleges.
AMC actively engages in international exchange and cooperation. It has the qualification to enroll and train international students, admitting its first batch in 2021. As a partner institution in the Ministry of Education's Singapore Nursing and Medical Full Scholarship Program, it has sent over 250 students to study, work, and live in Singapore. AMC has also established partnerships with higher education institutions and organizations in the United States, Australia, South Korea, Germany, and other countries for international education cooperation and faculty-student exchange programs.
AMC maintains high-quality talent cultivation. The first-time passing rates for assistant physician and nurse qualification exams consistently rank among the top in the province. Admissions and employment remain strong, with the entrance exam scores ranking first among provincial higher vocational colleges.
